About SCAD
Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) is an unpredictable event with patients usually presenting with a sudden unexpected heart attack.

Our Research
Our team at the Leicester Glenfield hospital is funded by BeatSCAD and from public donations and have previously received funded from the British Heart Foundation and NIHR Rare diseases Translational Research Collaboration.

First and foremost we would like to send our very best wishes to everyone in the SCAD-community, their friends and families. It has been a challenging time for us all as we enter a new phase of the pandemic with lockdown-2.
Here is some further advice which we hope will help questions from patients with SCAD, their family and friends.

First and foremost we would like to send our very best wishes to everyone in the SCAD-community, their friends and families. It has been a challenging time for us all but we are all hopeful that things are now improving.
As the lock-down eases, we are aware that many SCAD-survivors are being asked to return to work and so we wanted to update our advice on COVID-19 and SCAD which we hope will help.

Clearly it is a worrying time for many people at the moment and our thoughts are naturally with all our patients and friends in the SCAD-survivor community.
Most SCAD-survivors should now be ‘locked down’ in line with current government advice to reduce social contact.

SCAD researchers to present at Beat SCAD Conference
Beat SCAD, the UK charity supporting people with Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD), is holding its third Conference on Saturday 9 June at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, where SCAD researchers will present their latest findings. Patients will also be able to ask questions and talk to SCAD experts.
We arrived at the hospital all together at 9am and met the lovely professor Bruno
Then went to a part of the hospital where she explained everything that was going to happen
Then we all got separated and started doing the various tests with her colleagues
So the tests where
3 x blood pressure measurements in each arm
Ultrasound of the neck on both sides and artery on each arm (can’t remember the name of the artery)
Ultrasound of artery on groins, both sides
