Is it serious?
Most patients who have a SCAD episode will recover fully and get back to normal life. Occasionally however it can cause significant heart damage and lead to heart failure, or can even be fatal. SCAD requires prompt treatment for the best outcomes.
It is also important to note that in a minority of people with SCAD, it can occur again despite treatment. Part of our research is to find out why this happens. If you have suffered from SCAD and would like to get involved with our research, find out more here.
